The link that jasons78 provides is the source for my original thread post. I used that full-sized photo for the Wallpaper on my computer. I haven't gotten tired of seeing it on my monitor screen in over two months. Kinda puts the whole International Economic News we see every day in perspective...

Re: Use This Map When Deciding To Bug-out
(For those in the NW)
In the scenario that there is a sudden 'kaboom' (nuke in large city perhaps, EMP bomb, "bird flu," outbreak, etc.) that signals the commencement of SHTF, here's my suggestion to gain some temporary asylum until you get a chance to feel things out, with a radio, or cell phone. If you have some mountaineering skills, or care to learn some, I'd say take off into the Central or Northern Cascades of Washington with a couple weeks worth of supplies. (staying close enough to nearby towns to have incoming radio, and cell reception). With certain skills, you can travel 3 miles and be where few people have ever been before, or would care to go. I spent 30 consecutive days in the backcountry of the north cascades , and saw a total of 5 people. These encounters were always at semi-popular destinations, or on trail within the Nat'l park. 2 Were Park Rangers. A storm in 2003 washed out a lot of trails, making access to certain areas even harder to get to, but yet still feasible if your primary goal was to avoid "civilization" for a short time. Plenty of clean glacier water here, and gorgeous scenery to keep your mood aloft. (Leave your bright yellow North Face tent at home this time). Stay just below treeline to get fresh glacier water, while staying out of sight, or camp out by a creek/river with a portable filter, or AquaMira, and do some Fly Fishing. Up high, Fighter Jets run training missions through these mountains, and could easily spot someone against the white of snow. (I'll tell you, It's a quite an experience to watch an F-16, rocket by you and pull a 180, only few hundred feet below, and a couple hundred meters out from where you're climbing. We could actually see the pilot inside.) Anyways, there are also some mountain communities that are only accessible by boat or helicopter along Lake Chelan. These you could hike to, one's a Lutheran retreat village, the other I know of is a resort town. Check out this area. The ruggedness of the terrain makes it easy to get 'lost' here without ever being too far from the place you will once recall as 'civilization.' http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=4/11501155584.jpg&s=x402 http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=4/10901171613.jpg&s=x11 |
